ROUND 2 WRAP UP

Shados Inala showed they will be the team to beat with a four set win over Heidelberg, while Raptors showed how much they have improved with a commanding win over Murtoa Lizards in round two of Volleyball Horsham’s “A” grade competition.

The new look Shados Inala, with Kara Johnson leading the way with her clever setting to key hitters in Jack Hannan and Jordy Weidemann, were able to find the winners when needed in a consistent display of volleyball.

They were well supported by libero Emily Hannan, who picked up some big hits from the opposition to keep her team in the rally, and Tyler Puls and Sam Leith who were consistent on pass.

Heidelberg threw everything bar the kitchen sink at Shados Inala, but couldn’t penetrate their opposition’s tremendous defense.

In the second game Raptors were too good for Murtoa Lizards winning four sets on the back of the ever reliable Sam Cameron and their class players in Aidan O’Connor and Will Brennan.

The young St Brigid’s boys showed they will be a hard team to beat throughout the season.

In “B” grade the highlight game was between the Von Steiger Savages and Heidelberg team, with the older heads proving just too strong for their younger opponents.

Darcy Wills and Aaron Evans showed all their experience in getting the Savages over the line while the Heidelberg boys showed how far they have come after stepping up from “C” grade last season, and will continue to make life tough for all the competition.

In other games Waterhammers had to work to defeated Von Steiger X-Men, Von Steiger Shadows pulled out all stops to beat Murtoa, while Phantom Masters and Von Steiger Bloods both enjoyed solid victories.

There is still opportunity for individuals interested in playing to join Volleyball Horsham’s junior competition which is played on Monday evenings.
