Darren Gemmola

Having started his volleyball career in Ararat as a teenager, Darren came under the coaching influence of Colin Jones and Geoff Dunmore two of Ararat’s best. Darren played in the Ararat team that won a Horsham Volleyball Association “A” grade title in 1985 as a raw youngster on the way up. It was during the renaissance of the ‘90’s that Darren came to the fore as a key player for Volleyball Horsham. A high leaping athletic type that could play any position across the frontline, and pass consistently, Darren was a key member of the 1996 Volleyball Horsham country champs men’s gold medal team. Darren also contributed off the court as well, helping to reignite the Association in 1994, taking on volunteer committee roles and also coaching the girls’ team, which is where he met his future wife to be Angela. Darren was part of the Ararat contingent that supported the Association throughout this period, underlying his dedication to the Association. Darren participated with the Association’s men’s team in a number of tournaments throughout the decade.
