Volleyball Horsham held their Annual General Meeting at Weir Park on a balmy autumn evening with seven of the eight that were currently on the committee being re-elected to take the Association into the new decade.
With a necessity to keep our board quota at or above 40%, we welcomed onto the committee Becky Schmidt. Becky has a long history of involvement with Volleyball Horsham and her enthusiasm and bubbly personality will be a great boost for the Association.
It was agreed that by holding the AGM now, the opportunity presents itself to get a committee in place and they can start working on those off court tasks that can be done, at a time when normally everyone is too busy to attend to those tasks.
From a Volleyball Horsham perspective we will be looking at:-
1. Policies and ensuring they are up to date.
2. Updating our Procedures Manual.
3. Revising our budget for the year.
4. Encouraging our members to do online accreditations for refereeing and coaching.
5. Updating job descriptions.
6. Looking at our strategic and business plans.
7. Investigating innovative ways volleyball can be played going forward.
This is just a snapshot of what Volleyball Horsham is doing while we have no play, but all clubs and associations could be doing some vital planning, especially for when the time comes that we are able to play again. When this does happen, it will be all systems go for everyone.
The disappointing news for everyone was the cancellation of the 2020 Country Championships.
Volleyball Horsham rate these championships highly and for some the idea of a free weekend in June is unheard of. The last time Volleyball Horsham didn’t attend a championship was in the year 2000!
Also, the news had come through that State League has been suspended until at least May 31, with a decision to be made after that.
The Volleyball Horsham committee is:-
President – David Berry
Vice – president – Vaughn Maroske
Secretary – Shaun Bray
Treasurer – Tim Popple
Committee – Kara Johnson, Delaney Wills, Mercedes Arnott, Becky Schmidt.
The new committee will meet over the course of these uncertain times to plan for when volleyball recommences.
We will keep all members and supporters up to date as information comes to hand as to whether or not we can get our Summer Season up and running, if at all.
In the meantime we encourage all members to “Support Our Sport.” If you are in a position to pay your membership please do so as every little bit helps keeping the sport ticking over.
