John Mibus

John Mibus was one of the most influential players in the late 70’s associated with the Horsham Volleyball Association. John was a product of the Horsham Technical School with Phil Lienert and Barry Neumann his original influencers. John was a big boy for his age and adapted to the sport very quickly. He was the cornerstone of the successful Horsham Tech teams that competed against other schools from around the Wimmera. As students became more adept at the sport, Lienert and Neumann would encourage them to play in the Horsham Volleyball Association competition. John was one of these players that created much interest from early opposition teams. Once John left school he continued playing and was able to create his own team from Natimuk. Discussions with people of the day said that John was famous for his round arm windmill serving style, which created a lot of topspin on the ball making it hard to pass. Such people said John was an extremely watchable player in these early days of the association.
